My oldest is entering grade four and turning nine all on the same day. It just seems like yesterday that I was accompanying her to her first day of pre-school. My youngest is entering kindergarten and I cannot believe it has been five years already since I was feeding him a bottle.
Along with the sadness, I will be happy to see them getting back into a routine, having the opportunity to socialize with their friends and to grow as individuals. Not only that, I will have the mornings free to do with as I please!
When I think back to when I was still in school my memories of going back to school are positive ones. There was always the excitement of wearing new school clothes, finding out who the teacher(s) for the year was going to be and if my friends were going to be in the same class as me. Starting the year fresh with new goals and the anticipation of school sports to begin were always highlights for me.
I can only hope that my children feel as positive about heading back to school as I used to. I know some students dread being back at school for a number of reasons such as being picked on or struggling academically. As parents we need to keep these thoughts in mind as we send our children out the door to start the new school year. I know I want my children to feel good and safe about where they have to spend the majority of their time for the next ten months!
Thought of the day: Why is it that if someone tells you that there are 1 billion stars in the universe you will believe them, but if they tell you a wall has wet paint you will have to touch it to be sure?
