The other day at the gym where I work out a lady in the change room complimented me on how good I am looking. I graciously accepted her compliment and thanked her for saying so. Do I agree with her compliment that is the question?
In the past I would have focused more on the fact that I must not have looked that great before I started working out so that is the only reason why she complimented me. Of course that is focusing on the negative. As part of my new quest to becoming healthier, I am making a conscious effort to focus on the positive.
Instead of feeling that I did not deserve the compliment, I chose to focus on the fact that I have been working hard everyday and in fact am starting to look and feel better! It was a bonus that someone else has also noticed! It means I am on the right track to getting to where I want to be.
Compliments are a type of 'gift' giving us positive feedback. We should view compliments as a tool that increases our self-confidence, celebrating our achievements. When someone takes the time to pay forward a compliment, smile and say thank-you. Everyone deserves to feel good about themselves!
