Is it then fair to our own children to raise them the same way? I certainly do not think so. It almost always comes down to choices and actions. Sometimes the way things used to be is not necessarily the way it should have been. In many cases the statement, "That's how I was raised" is perfectly acceptable and positive. The point is that as adults we choose how we deal with responsibilities, feelings, our kids and the list goes on. Make the choices that make you proud of who you are as your own person not necessarily how someone else did things 40 years ago.
