So easy, yet so yummy! At least I think so anyways. This recipe was given to me by my Grandma. She received it from my Great-Grandma. These are the types of traditions that can continue to be passed down from one generation to the next.
If you do not like raisins or walnuts then this recipe will not be for you. If you or someone you would normally feed these to have a nut allergy then please leave the nuts out! I am fairly certain the cookies will still taste good! If you have a problem with raisins then maybe try and substitute something in place of the raisins like dates, dried cherries, cranberries, currants or even chopped prunes! At least you might stay regular!
Without further adieu here is the recipe:
1/2 cup butter
2 eggs beaten
1 cup of chopped walnuts
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup raisins
1 1/4 cup flour
Dash of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and salt
Mix together butter, sugar and eggs. Add the remaining ingredients. Drop on cookie sheet. Bake @ 375

Now this recipe does not say to plump the raisins first for baking but to get those little bites of flavor it might be a good idea. To do that place the raisins in boiling water and then let them sit for 5-10 minutes, drain and use. For additional flavor soak them in hot juice or hot water mixed with bourbon or rum. Yummy!
Interesting Tidbit:
Raisin grapes date back as far as 2000 BC in Persia and Egypt and are mentioned in the bible. There are numerous varieties of raisin grapes throughout the world. They are an excellent source of iron!
