Life can be quite overwhelming at times. Trying to sort out feelings, staying positive, being there for others, looking after ourselves, looking after other people....the list goes on. All of these 'life issues' piled together make it hard to focus on the present moment being grateful that we are even alive! This can make us feel helpless which is how I have been feeling since my mom found out she has breast cancer.
I really do not know what to do for her to make things better. The lack of control that I have over the situation plus the 'what if's' are what I am struggling the most with. Telling my mom not to worry and that everything is going to be okay is easy to say but convincing her it to be true is quite another.
All I can do is be there for her to listen to her worries and to be a shoulder to cry on. In the meantime I have to find strategies to implement to keep myself from having a nervous breakdown. Along with writing, I like to read and find myself in the middle of a book by Anthony Robbins titled, "Awaken The Giant Within." In a nutshell it is about taking immediate control of your mental, emotional, physical and financial destiny. The section I am reading presently is about using questions to help us experience more happiness, excitement, pride, gratitude, joy, commitment and love.
Examples of these types of questions include: What am I happy about in my life now? What am I proud about in my life now? What am I grateful about in my life now? Who do I love? Who loves me? These questions are meant to be implemented daily leading to empowering our emotional states regularly. Taking time to ask and answer these questions daily cannot hurt to try. All I can do is take things day by day.
Thought of the day: Is there ever a day that mattresses are not on sale?
Quote of the day: If you want to change the way people respond to you, change the way you respond to people. - Timothy Leary
