I have had many dogs come in and out of my life as a kid growing up on a farm. Accidents happen, dogs get sick with cancer and other diseases, they run away, they are stolen out of your yard, they are put down in your barn by the vet because they will not stop running away to hunt etc. (that incident is a blog for another time).
Since living in the city, I have now attempted to have a dog as a pet three times. The first dog was adopted from the city shelter. Life was going good with this dog until he bit my mom and then tried to bite my son. Needless to say, bye-bye dog! The second dog was a 'barker' and not meant to be in a city. He was shipped off with a family who had the time for him. This brings me to the third dog and the reason for today's drama.
After much debate, I made the decision to get rid of the most recent dog due to a number of factors. The reasons why do not really matter now since he is gone, but the way it has affected my children especially Veronica has made me feel horrible. I know this is going to be one of those incidents that will be brought up years down the road as, "Remember when we had that dog.....".
All I can hope for is that as time goes by my children will understand why we could not keep the dog and not hold a grudge about it. What I do know for sure is that I am not EVER going to get another dog for a pet while I live in a city!
