My family breathed an enormous sigh of relief yesterday when we were told at the Cancer Clinic that my mom does not need to have any chemotherapy or radiation treatments. Hip, hip, hooray! She does have to undergo hormone therapy, but that involves taking a pill once a day for the next five years. This is a lot more pleasanter for her than the alternatives!
This treatment, plus the mastectomy that she had ultimately means that she is 90% cancer free! Waiting to hear these results from the Dr. has been a trying time for my mom. I can only imagine how she must have felt when the Dr. told her the great news! The waiting for all of these test results has been the worst part.
In the case of waiting for medical test results, I do not agree with the saying that time heals all. The amount of time and energy spent on wondering and thinking of all of the possible outcomes is hard on the nerves. One does not want to focus on only the negative in these situations, but let us be real, the worst possible outcomes are always nagging at the back of the mind.
If we did not think of the unfavorable aspects of situations we would not ever have to feel relieved, but I do not believe this is realistic. We are emotional beings, some more than others. All I can say is that we left the clinic feeling relieved and optimistic for the future. Life is too short to feel otherwise! Now if only it would rain and give us some relief from the drought and heat!
Thought of the day: Can anybody who has a job go in the "employees only" doors at restaurants?
